International Seabed Authority: Projecting Deeper Partnership

Enhancing cooperation ties between Cameroon and the International Seabed Authority (ISA) came under discussions at the Star Building between the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute granted the Secretary General of the Organisation, Leticia Reis de Carvalho. Being her first visit to Cameroon and to an African country since she assumed office last year, the February 10, 2026 audience between the two personalities served as an opportunity to exchange views on the role of the country and continent in the debates and definition of rules and regulations as well as operations of ISA. “The topics of discussions during my meeting with the Prime Minister related to the role of Cameroon and Africa in debates and the definition of rules and regulations and the operations at the International Seabed Authority. I am happy to say that I was fully supported by Cameroon in this endeavour,” she stated. Looking forward, the Secretary General said she was honoured to have officially opened on February 10, 2026, the Deep Sea Diplomatic Academy hosted by the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC), an institution reputed for training diplomats in the country, continent and beyond. In her words, the opening of the academy which is the product of a partnership between ISA and Cameroon represents a seed of training future leaders in the deep seabed affairs. Leticia Reis de Carvalho, expressed her satisfaction of having opened the academy during her working visit in Cameroon, also stating her desire to see many nationals from Cameroon, other African countries as well as countries in the global South and North enrolling at the educational establishment to learn and become leaders in the deep sea affairs.
