South West: Wonya-Mavio Village Puts In Place Pioneer Administration

Buea (Fako)- The Wonya-Mavio village in Buea Subdivision has outlined its development path with the installation of the village administration. The event unfolded in a strict Bakweri culture at the Wonya-Mavio palace on Saturday, February 28, 2026 as cultures from different regions were given a pride of place. Those installed are 35 notables, 10 quarter heads and 20 eldersin-council. The legendary Nganya dance group singing in their old age rhythms and dancing in the footsteps of their ancestors cleansed the arena and set the stage for the installation. His Majesty, Chief Mofako Andrew Lyonga, traditional ruler of Wonya-Movia Village, then proceeded with the installation ritual. Visibly, it consisted of placing the invested on a traditional black stool which had a mat on it. He then invoked the blessings of his ancestors in Mokpwe (Bakweri language), beads were won on their right wrists and necks. The beads were followed with caps. They were given short traditional staff as symbols of authority which each invested grabbed with force from the hands of Chief Mofako.
