14th WTO Conference Opening: Speakers Express Hope For Revamped, Reformed Global Trade Oversight

At the opening of the 14th Ministerial Conference, MC14, of the World Trade Organization,  WTO in Yaounde,  Cameroon on Thursday March 26, 2026, speakers expressed hope of a strengthened global trade oversight organization.
MC14 Chair and Cameroon's Trade Minister,  Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana commended delegates for believing in a reformed, strengthened WTO. Despite conflicts and disruptions to international trade.
WTO Director General,  Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala described Africa as "the continent of the future." She insisted on a thorough revisit of WTO’S manner of functioning.  Dr Okonjo-Iweala acknowledged the immeasurable contributions of WTO to global wealth creation and jobs.
Despite its challenges,  22 economies are currently knocking at the doors of WTO for membership,  Dr Okonjo-Iweala disclosed.
