Curtain Raiser For May 20: Yaounde Comes Alive In Massive Dress Rehearsal Display

The historic May 20 Avenue in Cameroon’s capital city, Yaoundé, was transformed into a grand arena of synchronized movement, patriotism, and military precision on Monday, May 18, 2026. The occasion was the final, mandatory general rehearsal ahead of the nation's 54th National Day celebrations. 
Under a crisp morning and afternoon sky, the vast boulevard echoed with the booming cadences of military brass bands, the rhythmic stomping of combat boots, and the enthusiastic cheers of civilian marchers. All indicative of the country's readiness for the main event on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Meticulous Oversight
The high-stakes evaluation exercise was meticulously supervised by the Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo. Flanked by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo. And a high-powered delegation comprising senior military officers, administrative officials, cabinet ministers, and top-tier State House dignitaries. The presence of these officials underscored the institutional weight and security priority attached to the annual celebration of Cameroon's Unitary State status - a milestone tracing back to the landmark 1972 referendum.

Chadian Military Contingent
A major highlight of this year’s rehearsal was the remarkable and highly applauded presence of a special military contingent from the Republic of Chad.
