Cameroon-UK Relations: Archbishop Of Canterbury Visits In August

Discussions on her official mission took place at the Ministry of External Relations on June 12, 2026.
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, on June 12, 2026 granted an audience to the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, Matt Woods. Amongst other things, discussions were on the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury to Cameroon in August this year. This explains why the High Commissioner was accompanied to the audience by Bishop Dibo Elango of the Anglican Church in Cameroon. The Most Reverend Sarah Mullally who was officially installed as the 106th Archbishop some six months ago (January 2026) and made history as the first woman to hold this position and lead the Church of England visits Cameroon as part of her commitment to building relationships across the Anglican Communion. In his statement to the press after the audience, Matt Woods said his exchanges with the Minister also recognised the important role of the Anglican church in the country. Minister Mbayu and the High Commissioner also talked about the UK’s participation at the 10th edition of the International Exhibition for Business, SMEs, and Partnerships (PROMOTE) that began in Yaounde on June 12, 2026. To Matt Woods, the exhibition serves as a major hub that will enable the United Kingdom deepen its business relations with other stakeholders and make known its actions and achievements in Cameroon.
