The June 23 visit focused on deepening trade ties and laying the groundwork for a formal business framework between the two neighbours.
A Nigerian trade mission was in Douala on June 23 to sound out business opportunities and strengthen commercial ties with Cameroon’s private sector. The mission, which held talks at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Crafts, brought together economic operators from both countries to explore new areas of cooperation and investment. The visit comes against the backdrop of long-standing relations between Cameroon and Nigeria, whose business communities have maintained exchanges over the years despite the absence of a formal trade agreement. It was therefore an opportunity for the Nigerian delegation to push for a more structured framework capable of boosting bilateral trade. Leading the mission, Alhaji Abubakar Sahabo Bawuro said discussions were underway on the possibility of setting up a complete Nigeria–Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, with a functional secretariat to coordinate trade exchanges and follow up business engagements between both countries. He lamented the absence of officially verified trade figures between Cameroon and Nigeria, saying such statistics would provide a clearer picture of the scale of business already taking place and the prospects ahead.
