Breast Cancer: Female Diplomats Launch Sensitisation

M onth-long sensitisation ac­ tivities on breast cancer have been launched at the Ministry of External Relations. The kick-off was given by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Ex­ ternal Relations in charge of Co­ operation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu on October 1, 2026, on behalf of Minister Mbella Mbella. Indeed, for the entire month, va­ rious activities such as screening on breast cancer, workshops and sporting activities will be organised at the Ministry. The sporting acti­ vities would hold every Saturday of the month, the workshops will be organised in partnership with health experts and three medical centres, amongst them the Inter­ national Red Cross Committee will be onsite for the free screening exercise. As explained by the President of the Dynamic Women of Cameroo­ nian Diplomacy, DYFEDCAM, Sylvie Elung, who is also the Inspector General in charge of Service at the Ministry of External Relations, the objective is to have early diag­ nosis and treatment, if there are any. In her words, “Cancer is real and the message is to encourage ladies in particular and also men to get screened. Early diagnosis is key and this will enable timely treatment,” she said. There were two cancer survivors (a female and male) who shared their ex­ periences, especially on the phy­ sical and physiological challenges. Their underlying message was to shun fear, have courage and follow medical treatment. Minister Felix Mbayu said the cam­ paign for Pink October articulates on four axes which include sensi­ tisation on screening, mobilising funds for research and partners for collective action, and providing ample support to victims.
