Underprivileged Muslim families from across Douala have been encouraged to call upon Allah fervently and remain steadfast to Islamic teachings. The words of encouragement came from El Hadji Mouhamadou Yakoubou, President of the National Alliance of Young Muslims of Cameroon, while handing over gifts of sugar, rice, cooking oil, sardine, sparghetti, soap, tins of tomato, flour, mineral water and sweet drinks to beneficiaries at the Chefferie Haoussa in New Bell Saturday, June 17. The donation is evaluated to be over FCFA 6.8 million.
“Ramadan to us is a period of sharing, solidarity and generosity. That is why we making this donation, especially to underprivileged families to strengthen them to go through the remaining days of the on-going Ramadan, which involves fasting and praying,” Mr. Yakoubou underscored in his keynote address on the occasion that was heavily attended by Muslim dignitaries, traditional leaders and the administration.
Through the distribution of foodstuffs, the association seeks to give a positive push to the well-being of the Muslim community. Together with other actions it believes that by so doing unemployment and underscholarisation will be reduced, while integrating young Muslim graduates, among others.
