Local Governance: Actors Improve Competences

A regional awareness-raising and capacity building workshop for governance stakeholders opened in Yaounde yesterday June 11, 2025.
Within the context of promoting development through the principle of decentralisation, a regional awareness and capacity building workshop for governance actors has been organised in Yaounde. Centre Regional Governor, Naseri Paul Bea chaired the seminar that brought together representatives from Councils in the region. At the initiative of the National Programme on Governance, exchanges took place under the theme; “Optimizing Citizen Participation in the Management of Public Affairs in Cameroon.” The workshop is aligned with the National Development Strategy (NDS30) and the Community Development Action initiatives which seek at positioning Cameroon as an emerging economy by prioritizing inclusive growth. In concrete terms, the Yaounde meeting aims at promoting citizen participation in the community decisions and development. As highlighted by the Governor in his opening statement, the National Governance Programme instituted by the President of the Republic, translates the desire to improve democracy, fight against corruption and enhance transparency in public affairs. According to him, the goal of the workshop is to ensure that governance stakeholders become effective instruments in guaranteeing social development in their respective communities, strengthen public-private partnership and increase equitable access to justice. A retrospective of the last three years, the Governor stated, indicate that there is an improvement in local governance in the country, largely thanks to the putting in place of reforms and strategies to promote transparency.
