New State Universities : Projects Reach 58.86 Per cent Completion

This progress was reported during the Ad Hoc Committee's third session, which oversees the development of the universities in Bertoua, Ebolowa, and Garoua yesterday August 7, 2025.
Despite the extension of deadlines granted to construction companies, the progress on the three new State universities in Bertoua, Ebolowa, and Garoua remains slow. Against this backdrop, the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, convened the third session of the Ad Hoc Committee in Yaounde yesterday August 7, 2025. The committee oversees the implementation of the project initiated by the President of the Republic on January 5, 2022, to establish these universities.
The primary objective of the meeting was to assess the progress of the work on the ground and establish resolutions for upcoming deadlines. During the opening session, Minister of State Jacques Fame Ndongo emphasized the committee's role in ensuring the project's smooth execution, effective achievement, and efficient resource utilization. Recalling the challenges identified during the last committee session on February 20, 2025, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo highlighted several key issues impacting the project's progress and success. These challenges include: insufficient funding hindering project progress, delays in payment of engagements affecting project momentum, lapse of insurance policies which potentially exposes the project to risks. Furthermore, successful bidders abandoned construction sites, disrupting project continuity while project managers are absent from work sites, hindering project progress and oversight. These challenges, according to the Minister of State, necessitated prompt attention and collective effort to ensure the project's successful completion. The committee members subsequently reviewed the recommendations from the previous session, which included granting an additional six-month extension to mobilize companies to deliver their contracts.
