Fight Against Corruption: Polishing Up Combat Mechanisms

The 16th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti- Corruption Agencies in Africa, that begins on May 4 will explore ways of limiting the vice in the society.

Cameroon is set to host the 16th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, from May 4- 8, 2026 at the Yaounde Conference Centre. Delegates are expected from 25 anti-corruption agencies across 20 Commonwealth countries in Africa. Representatives of the Commonwealth Secretariat and officials the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, two main partners of the event are also awaited in the confab in Yaounde, not forgetting governance experts from national and international organisations. In total, about 200 participants are expected including experts and youth representatives. Reflections will border on the theme, “Deploying Artificial Intelligence in the Fight Against Corruption in Commonwealth Africa.” The programme of activities as communicated by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Cameroon (CONAC), host institution, previews country presentations on innovative approaches to fight corruption, expert presentations for a clearer vision and strategy to combat corruption, as well as networking and sharing of best practices by members of the 25 participating delegations from 20 Commonwealth countries. With regards to the stakes of the conference, CONAC officials note that their investigations reveal that corruption continues to undermine development, weaken institutions and erode citizens’ confidence.
