Solidarity: “Marmites du Cœur” Brings Hope

Food was distributed to about 750 families across different neighbourhoods in Douala on Friday August 21.
M ore than 3,000 meals were distributed to 750 vulnerable families across six neighbou rhoods in Douala on August 21, as part of the first edition of the “Les Marmites du Cœur” initiative, organised by Season Media. The activity began at the espla nade of Douala Grand Mall were the food was prepared and later transported to the different sites for distribution. Teams progressi vely moved into Nylon, Bois des Singes, Mambanda, Bansoa, and Makepe-Missoke and Ndogpassi to deliver the meals and other es sential items to beneficiary fami lies. While at Makepe-Missoke, the heavy rains couldn’t deter the be neficiaries as they lined up under the rain to collect the food and other items. One of the beneficia ries, Tchiugwa Joseline of Bloc 10 Makepe-Missoke, said it was a wel come innitiave. She said it will go a long way to feed her children who had not eaten around 4 pm at the time of distribution. According to Eva Mballa CEO of Season media, the initiative was conceived as a practical response to the growing economic difficul ties faced by many households. The choice of date was also deli berate, coming shortly before the new school year, when parents have to cope with food expenses alongside school fees and sup plies. She said the initiative reflects a broader vision of the media’s role in society. Beyond providing relia ble information through its plat forms, she said they wanted to remain close to communities, iden tify their needs and contribute, where possible, to solutions that improve their daily lives.
