MTN Elite One: Title Contenders Set For Battle

F or over three months, the 14 teams participating in the 2026-2027 season of the MTN Elite One Cham­ pionship have been strategizing; principally caught between power­ ful recruitments and well-conceived training programmes. The moment they have all been waiting for is fi­ nally just hours away. Indeed, MTN Elite One action returns to the pitches tomorrow, October 17, 2026, with the opening match pit­ ting newly-promoted Union Sportive of Abong-Mbang against Stade Re­ nard of Melong in Bertoua. The championship is expected to run un­ til May 16, 2027. Each team enters the competition with its own objectives, but the pa­ ramount and most prestigious goal of all is to clinch the championship title, which has been held by Co­ lombe Sportive of Dja and Lobo for two consecutive seasons. After all, the format remains the same: one group of 14 teams, with matches played on a home-and-away basis, and the best-ranked club emerging as champion at the end. The South Regional Club is currently attending to continental duties as they will face Teungueth FC of Senegal this Sunday, within the framework of the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
