Cameroon-France : Strengthening Economic Cooperation

In a bid to strengthen deep economic ties between France and Cameroon, the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alamine Ousmane Mey, granted an audience to France's newly appointed Ambassador to Cameroon, Sylvain Riquier, on September 30, 2025. The high-level meeting focused on charting a course for strengthened economic collaboration between both countries while empowering the private sector.
The French Ambassador, who arrived Cameroon in early September, noted that the meeting was part of a series of engagements with the Cameroonian government. He expressed satisfaction with the discussions, which covered the current economic situation in Cameroon and the future direction of cooperation between the duo.
The off-camera audience laid down strategies to ensure a seamless economic partnership. While details of the specific strategies remain under wraps, the Ambassador’s arrival suggests forthcoming initiatives aimed at increasing trade, facilitating foreign direct investment, and supporting Cameroonian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through French expertise and financing instruments like the French Development Agency (AFD) amongst others.
