The country has been able to win about 20 medals in several international boxing competitions since the creation of the provisional management body in 2023.
Martin Ndongo-Ebanga, of blessed memory, put Cameroonian boxing in the spotlight in 1984 when he won a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Boxing then progressively became a strong source of medals for Cameroon in several prestigious international competitions. In the 2017 World Championships in Germany, Arséne Fokou Fosso (+91kg) won bronze and in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, Wilfried Seyi Tsengue (75kg) bagged silver for Cameroon, just to mention but these.
The recent electoral wrangling within the federation is evidently a setback, but the boxers have stood the test of time, still bringing honour to the nation. Since the creation of the provisional management committee in 2023, the country has won about 20 medals in various international competitions. At the 2023 Men's and Women's African Elite Boxing Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon clinched 10 medals, including a prestigious gold won by Zachari Serge Mvogo Amougou in the +92kg category. This was evidently the first baptism of fire of the provisional management committee given that the competition was organised at home.
In the same year, Cameroon took part in the Olympic Games qualification tournament in Senegal. The Cameroonian boxers managed to win three bronze medals, but none qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games.
