Boxing : Resilience Rings Loud

Although the federation has been without an elected bureau for nearly three years, the sport continues to bring home medals, thanks to steadfast support from the State.

The Cameroon national boxing team is currently preparing for the Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships scheduled for October 15–25, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi, Kenya. After several weeks of an external training camp, the boxers are currently in an internal camp in Yaounde under the guidance of the national team coach, Alain Didier Ngatcha. Before this camp, four Cameroonian boxers participated in the 16th International Boxing Tournament in memory of the first president of the Chechen Republic and Russian hero, Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov in September 2025. This tournament helped the boxers further fine-tune their skills at the international level. The objective of this rigorous preparation is to win as many medals as possible for Cameroon in upcoming competitions like the event in Kenya.   
Many are wondering how the discipline continues to thrive amid troubled waters. It should be recalled that since the last election within Cameroon sports federations in 2022, the Cameroon Boxing Federation has failed to elect a new bureau due to pre- and post-electoral wrangling. As a result, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education created a provisional management committee in 2023 to handle the federation’s current affairs and ensure that that boxers take part in international competitions. However, this body has its limitations despite several efforts on the ground. The committee has been unable to organize national championships, galas or the Cup of Cameroon due to lack of resources.
