Protecting The Common Heritage!

Election of President of the Republic for the next seven years has come and gone; at least for the voting and proclamation of results, but the post-electoral attitude of Cameroonians is what could better shape or regress the country. In a democracy, like what Cameroon has been struggling to build over the years, no one would pretend to imagine or even expect unanimity. But when all political actors have the interest of the people and nation at heart, they rally their following and together work to improve what is existing and not to destroy it.
The twelve hopefuls who were finally retained to compete for the country’s top job and the ten who effectively faced the electorate; after two rallied behind one of the candidates, knew from the onset that only one will carry the day. Incumbent Paul Biya stood tallest and was therefore officially proclaimed winner of the October 12, 2025 Presidential election yesterday.
What this means is that whether you voted for him or not, majority carried the day and the verdict of the polls, as proclaimed by the competent structure - the Constitutional Council, is final. No need therefore for bickering either from attempted candidates or their followers. No aspiring leader worth the salt would want to rule at all cost!
Fair-play is an imperative in all competitions, elections inclusive, and should be made to prevail now and thereafter. And as fate would have it, all the political parties that went in for the 2025 Presidential election in Cameroon signed a Code of Conduct for Cameroon as a country to triumph over their personal interests before, during and after the polls.  For instance, political parties agreed on one of the points, “Not to propagate opinions or actions that in any way undermine the sovereignty, integrity or security of Cameroon, maintenance of public order, integrity or independence of the judicial system or that challenge or ridicule the latter or the Cameroonian armed forces, or that are immoral.” In fact, they signed that, “No party shall engage in violent activities to prove its supremacy.” These are legally-binding!
There is no question now to backpedal and disturbingly lure the gullible population into taking the laws of the Republic into their hands in the name of “Protecting their votes.” Crying over spilled milk here would not help anyone, not even the perpetrator. Fear of the unknown that is in Cameroonians now, owing to threats of chaos should this or that candidate not emerge overall winner of the election, is completely out of place in a country that needs all its...
