North West : Celebrations In Peace

The population of the North West Region remained calm after the proclamation of the presidential election results.
The population of the North West Region, particularly its capital city Bamenda lived the proclamation of the October 12, 2025 Presidential election results in a calm atmosphere that is characteristic of Monday ghost town phenomenon imposed by separatist fighters. As such, there were few activities going on in Bamenda as only commercial motorcycle riders carried passengers from one part of the town to another and some private cars also drove around.
After the proclamation of the results in which the North West Region gave 86.31 per cent victory to the President-elect, Paul Biya, some members and supporters of his Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) party started celebrating. Gathered around the Bamenda City Council Mayor, Paul Achobong, they marched from his residence to the esplanade of the Mezam Senior Divisional Office at Up Station singing celebration songs in honour of their candidate President Paul Biya whom the Constitutional Council declared winner of the election with 2,474,179 of the votes cast, representing 53.66 per cent.
Talking to the press after the proclamation of the results, North West Regional Governor, Adolphe Lele lafrique said, “On behalf of the population of the North West Region who have voted massively President Paul Biya with more than 86 per cent, I am very happy that the man who has proclaimed himself as the “Beggar of Peace” has been re-elected and given the responsibility to continue and terminate the peace process that he started after the c...
