Burkina Faso : Gov’t Announces New Anti-Corruption Measures

The military government in Burkina Faso has announced new measures to fight corruption within the public administration. The move follows the appearance on February 2, 2026 of about ten magistrates and lawyers in court to answer charges of bribing a public official, disclosing a witness's identity, and influence peddling. In an interview broadcast on public television, Commander Farouk Azaria Sorgho, spokesperson for KORAG, the body responsible for fighting corruption, acknowledged the persistence of the phenomenon which is “plaguing” the Burkinabe society. 
The Spokesperson added that, “Despite measures already taken, corruption continues to plague Burkina Faso. But the government is toughening its stance this year with immediate sanctions against any dishonest official caught in the act of corruption”. From now onwards, fines for any traffic violations will be paid electronically. To eliminate any financial contact between the driver and the officer, the government has introduced “Laabal” requisition card. In the event of an infraction, the documents are confiscated in exchange for a card, which is used to pay the fine directly to the Public Treasury.
