National Day Celebration: Official Launch Of Activities In Douala

This was characterized by a march past that started from all corners of the town, culminating at the Besseke grandstand on May 9, 2026.
As the days draw nearer to the celebration of the 54th edition of National Day on May 20 in the Littoral Region, activities to commemorate the day have been officially launched. The launch took place on Saturday May 9, 2026 with a marchpast caravan involving both the military and civilians. The various caravans set out from different corners of the town and from all Subdivisions to assemble at the Douala Besseke grandstand, where a physical exercise was held. Speaking at the event, the Secretary General of the Littoral Governor’s Office, Aboubakary Haman Tchiouto, expressed appreciation to all participants. He said National Day is day for all Cameroonians nationwide to celebrate national unity and peaceful coexistence. He added that both the military and civilians were determined to make the celebration a success in grandeur across the entire region. During the ceremony, various military and paramilitary corps including the gendarmerie, the police, the penitentiary service, and forest guards were on hand to showcase their talents in culture and other activities. Following this year’s theme, “National Unity, Backbone of Our Defence System, Bedrock of Cameroon’s Development”, the different corps of the national defence and security forces danced and performed to represent the cultures of all 10 regions of Cameroon.
