Unlawful Programmes, Advertisements: Media Professionals Cautioned

Below is a press release from the National Communication Council.

“The National Communication Council notes with grave concern the upsurge of programmes across audiovisual, print and digital media promoting medication and other health products said to have curative, preventive and even miraculous properties. The NCC observes that these messages appear in various forms: advertising spots, programmes presented as medical broadcasts, interviews, unverified consumer testimonials, and commercial messages disguised as editorial content. Such practices deliberately blur the line between journalism and advertising, breach fundamental principles of media ethics, encourage self-medication, and pose a serious threat to public health. The Council firmly reminds promoters and general managers that they bear sole responsibility for ensuring that content broadcast or published on their platforms is lawful and compliant.
