2026 Commonwealth Games: Competition Rumbles Off Today

F rom today, July 23, 2026, to August 2, 2026, top global ta­ lents including mul­ tiple Olympic and Paralympic champions, competing in 10 sports, will thrill fans at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Over 200 gold medals are up for grasp in this prestigious com­ petition. As for the opening ceremony set for today, award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Walker will join the all-star line-up of music acts taking to the iconic Hydro stage. The ce­ remony will place Glasgow at the heart of the story, with performances from glo­ bal superstars, emerging ta­ lents, and a cast of 600 vo­ lunteers from across Scotland and beyond. Cameroon is well represented in the competition. After the removal of three boxers from Team Cameroon’s official de­ legation due to the numerous problems within the Came­ roon Boxing Federation, the country will finally be repre­ sented by 21 athletes instead of the initial 24. These athletes will compete in Athletics and para athletics, Weightlifting and para po­ werlifting and Judo. Team Cameroon’s contingent is now at full strength, as the last group of athletes from Cameroon, including five judokas, was expected to ar­ rive in Glasgow yesterday.
