School Resumption: Discipline Prescribed

Students of the English Sub system of education in Douala turned out massively.
O n Monday September 7, Douala woke up to an effec tive start of the 2026/2027 academic year. The streets where busy with children heading towards different directions while some were being accompanied others went alone. For the primary school, be it at PEPCAM primary and nursery school Ndogbong, and Ecole Dauphine Ndogbong pupils were welcomed as early as 6am. School authorities confirmed that they were ready for classes. For the principal of Govern ment Bilingual High School Deido Madam Elango Wase Nanje the first day of school was very effective as the school expected 5,300 students and received 4,203, representing an estimated 80.8 per cent attendance on the opening day. The Principal described the turnout as encoura ging. She said on the first day they students who did not come in the ap propriate uniform were advised on the correct dress code rather than being sent away. She said during the general assem bly, students were reminded of the importance of attending classes re gularly, completing assignments, ar riving on time and respecting tea chers and fellow students. She added that discipline is expected to remain a major priority at the insti tution. Students were cautioned against fighting, cheating, stealing and other forms of misconduct. They were also reminded to respect school rules and regulations, with the administration warning that vio lations would attract appropriate sanctions. Academic performance is equally high on the administration’s agenda at Government Bilingual High School Deido as she said greater efforts would be made this year to improve the school’s performance.
