Local Production, Transformation: MIPROMALO Intensifies Import Substitution Efforts

In a bid to enhance import substitution using locally sour­ ced and transformed resources to build smart cities in Came­ roon, through the promotion of sustainable skill acquisition, the Local Material Promotion Authority (MIPROMALO), has organised a weeklong open door event at their Yaounde based headquarters. The exhi­ bition stands were launched yesterday, September 22, 2026 by the Director General, Dr Li­ kiby Boubakar. Convened under the theme, “Train builders of tomorrow to­ day using local materials,” MI­ PROMALO’s Director General Dr Likiby Boubakar underscored that the open doors that runs through Friday September 25, 2026, is meant to showcase the activities done within their transformation lab and empo­ wer youths with sustainable skills necessary to transform local resources and satisfy the population’s growing infrastruc­ tural needs. “This will also contribute to the achievement of the National Development Strategy (SND30)”, he said. The plethora of products pro­ duced by MIPROMALO spans blocks moulded from both bricks and clay, pavers, balus­ ters, pillars, Kitchen utensils, decorative artefacts, amongst others. Edifying the participants comprising technical students and a delegation from the Mi­ nistry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) on the relevance of skill acquisition in sustainable development, Dr Likiby underscored that MIPRO­ MALO’s products are sold at varying prices starting from FCFA 300 to several hundreds of thousands.
