Centre: Integrating Nutrition In Healthcare, Schools

Yaoundé III (Mfoundi) - Early nutri­ tion intervention for cancer patients, routine nutritional screening and the integration of nutrition education into secondary school curricula are among recommendations that emerged from two pioneering Master’s thesis de­ fences in Public Health Nutrition held on the campus of the Jaof University Higher Institute of Science (JHIS) Fri­ day 31st July, 2026. During the dual defence, two candidates presented research on cancer-related malnutri­ tion and adolescent nutrition, offering evidence-based recommendations to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve nutrition outcomes in Came­ roon. Shanceline Tufoin defended her thesis titled ‘Factors Associated with Can­ cer-Related Malnutrition among Pa­ tients at the Yaounde General Hos­ pital’. Her study involving 130 parti­ cipants found that 20.8 per cent of patients were malnourished and iden­ tified low monthly income, advanced cancer stage and low haemoglobin levels as factors associated with can­ cer related malnutrition.
