Cultural Diplomacy: “Tour Around Cameroon” Charms USA Inhabitants

Cameroon Embassy in Washington D.C deployed digital tools and Pan-African art to showcase the nation's rich tourism potential to visitors ahead of World Tourism Day.

On the side-lines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly holding in New York, and in honour of World Tourism Day celebrated on September 27, 2026, the Embassy of Cameroon in Washington, D.C., hosted a vibrant cultural immersion event titled “Tour Around Cameroon in One Day.” Commemorated under the global theme, “Di­ gital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” the full-day event which took place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, united an array of visitors to the di­ plomatic chancery at 2349 Massachusetts Avenue NW. From 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., international guests and members of the diaspora explored exhibition stands high­ lighting Cameroon's vast ecotourism poten­ tial, fine arts, and legendary gastronomy, that featured a vivid snapshot of "Africa in Miniature" within the embassy walls. A key highlight of the day was the official launch of the “Pan African” fabric line by Ca­ meroonian born artist Shiri Achu who debu­ ted her collection at the Smithsonian Natio­ nal Museum of African Art alongside fellow designers from across the continent. Representing the Ambassador, Minister Counsellor Eugene Defang presented Came­ roon as a unique tourist destination. He em­ phasized that the nation's tourism sector is entering a new era driven by modern inven­ tions and renewed energy.
