Cameroon-South Africa: Joint Cooperation Commission Discussed

W ithin the framework of strengthening cooperation between Cameroon and South Africa, the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella granted an audience to the High Commissioner, Mandla Langa on October 7, 2026. The main topic at the audience, going by the statement of the South African Head of Mission, was the establishment of a Joint Cooperation Commission (JCC) between the two parties. Indeed, the framework for this mechanism was originally laid out under a General Cooperation Agreement signed between the two nations in September 2006. Given their trade and economic relations, a specific joint trade commission is tasked with monitoring and evalua­ ting bilateral trade agreements. The Minister and High Commissioner thus examined practical modalities to this JCC which in their opinions will boost diplomatic relations bet­ ween the two countries. “Today was to reaffirm our collabo­ ration on bilateral relations and his­ torical links. We discussed a number of issues to strengthen the colla­ boration. One of the most important ones is to work towards the esta­ blishment of a Joint Cooperation Commission between our two coun­ tries,” the High Commissioner told reporters after the audience with the Minister. Undeniably, commercial relations have remained friendly between the land of legendary hospitality and the rainbow nation, with trade exchanges exceeding FCFA 50 billion since 2017, a situation which keeps progressing.
