Peace In NW/SW: Religious, Traditional Leaders Reaffirm Support

Officials from the two restive regions were received yesterday by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute.
A s part of efforts to see that lasting peace returns to the North West and South West Regions, religious authorities and traditional rulers from the two regions were at the Star Building yesterday September 7, 2026 to reaffirm their com mitment and determination to the course. Led by the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, Bishop Michael Bibi, the dele gation received by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, presented a document containing strate gies for enhancing, reconcilia tion, justice and social cohesion, following the recommendations of Pope Leo XIV in Bamenda in a meeting with them last April 16 when the Holy Father visited the city. Explaining on the reason for their working session with the Head of Government, Bishop Michael Bibi said after the mee ting with the Pontiff, the Arch bishop of Bamenda formed a committee to reflect on the message from the Holy Father and see how it can be brought to fruition. “We saw that it was necessary that traditional rulers and the religious authorities work together so that we can see how justice, peace, recon ciliation and forgiveness can come back to our communities. We are living in these commu nities and we monitor the evo lution of things. It is our res ponsibility to see to it that we continue to play a very impor tant part in order to see that this conflict comes to an end. So our coming to the Star Buil ding was to update the Prime Minister, Head of Government about the meeting that we had in Buea on September 2 to 3, 2026 so that the govern ment too, should be aware of what we are doing and our ef forts to peace,” the religious leader stated.
