African Sambo Championship: Cameroon Wins 11 Medals

The Sambo Lions finished as vice champions of Africa during the 19th edition of the competition that ended in Conakry, Guinea, on May 25, 2025.

Cameroon finished as vice African champions in the 19th edition of the African Sambo Championship that rounded off in Conakry, Guinea on May 25, 2025. Cameroon, with athletes competing in 11 categories, won 11 medals, including 5 gold. Some 11 athletes represented the country in 11 out of the 25 categories. The objective was to reclaim the continental title. During the first day Cameroon won five medals (two gold, two silver and one bronze) won by five athletes. On the second day five sambo athletes qualified for finals in their respective categories while one athlete settled for bronze. In the final, three athletes won additional gold medals for Cameroon and two won silver bringing the total to 11 medals including five in gold. Morocco topped the medal chart with 12 medals nine of them in gold due to their numerical advantage. Burkina Faso completed the podium in the championship with two medals, one of which was gold. The President of the Cameroon Sambo Federation, François Mbassi said that is vice champion of Africa today has been African champions in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2022. He said Cameroon has as ambition to organise the Sambo World Cup in future.
