Bilateral Relations: Cameroon Intensifying Ties With Algeria

As part of efforts to further enhance bilateral relations between Cameroon and Algeria, a proposed legal instrument on the mutual exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports of the two countries for a period of 90 days has been examined in Parliament. The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu was before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate on November 17, 2025 to defend and explain the pertinence of ratifying the accord, especially on the political and economic spheres of bilateral relations.

The Minister took out time to explain to legislators that the legal instrument offers both States the opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties, based on the principles of reciprocity, and mutual respect for national sovereignty. Ratifying the agreement that was signed on December 21, 2024 in Alger, Minister Felix Mbayu said, places Algeria on an equal footing with Tunisia and Egypt, two North African countries with which Cameroon has already established similar agreements. He added that the agreement is part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and intra-African cooperation within the framework of building a prosperous and inclusive continent. “The signing of this agreement comes to establish long standing relationship between Cameroon and Algeria.
