Election Observers : Accreditation Ongoing

A press release by the Minister of Territorial Administration specifies the modalities to be respected by institutions interested in observing the polls.

The presence of electoral observers in an election is a legal prerequisite. As a result, they are present during elections in the country and the case of the November 30 Regional Elections will not be different. According to the Electoral Code, national observers shall be accredited by the Minister in charge of territorial administration. Indeed, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji on November 24, 2025 issued a press release calling on partners and organisations interested in observing the electoral operations to submit their application files at the Inspector General of Elections of his Ministry. National and international partners working in the domains of human rights, elections and democracy are expected to submit their files latest November 29 at 3pm. After the deadline, a list of those accredited shall then be made public by the Ministry and those accredited duly notified. 
Documents needed for the said application are highlighted in the communique and they include, amongst others, an application addressed to the Minister of Territorial Administration, a copy of the legal instrument justifying the legal existence of the organisation or association, the list and full identities of the observers, stating the localities in which they wish to observe, and a copy of an observation report of a previous election or any other useful information. For international observers, they are expected to show proof of sufficient resources to cover their stay and accreditation in Cameroon, a copy of their passport(s) or its identification page and the page bearing the visa and stamp of entry into Cameroon, a mission order issued by the organisation, a flight ticket and a health repatriation insurance.  
 In essence, the Ministry of Territorial Administration is accrediting the observers in accordance with the law which states that Elections Cameroon may collaborate with accredited national and international observers concerning the supervision of the election. Section 296 (4) of...
