Death of Former Algerian President:Government Sympathises

External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella signed the condolence book at the Embassy in Yaounde on April 2, 2026.

Following the death of the former President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, H.E. Liamine Zeroual, which occurred on March 29, 2026, in Algiers, the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella, visited the Embassy of Algeria in Yaounde on Thursday, April 2, 2026 to present the condolences of the government of Cameroon. The Minister was welcomed upon arrival at the diplomatic mission by the Ambassador of Algeria to Cameroon, Abdallah Boukemmache. In a solemn and respectful manner, the Minister walked to the space that had been reserved for homage paying and signed the condolence book opened in memory of the deceased. He penned a message of the memory Cameroon keeps of the former Statesman, who had visited Cameroon while as President of Algeria. The Minister had a brief audience with the Ambassador, during which he expressed the heartfelt compassion of the government of Cameroon to the government of Algeria in the face of the painful circumstances. In his words, he came to honour the memory of an exceptional Statesman, whose commitment greatly contributed to the peace and stability of his country, as well being a great friend and partner of Cameroon. Minister Mbella Mbella said documentation will always have it that the former President of Algeria devoted himself to enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
