Supporting IDPs: Basic Commodities Offered

“Havre de Paix Association” brought relief packages to the IDPs in Mambanda- Bonaberi on Saturday April 25.

In an atmosphere of deep gratitude, a Yaoundé-based non-profit organization known as “Havre de Paix Association”, offered some basic commodities to some Internal Displaced Persons -IDPs in the Douala IV subdivision on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The group donated essential food items and toiletries to over 100 Internally Displaced families many of whom fled the Northwest and Southwest regions. The event that took place in the Mambanda neighbourhood in the Douala IV sub division saw beneficiaries welcoming the association members with songs of praise, underscoring the emotional and social importance of the support. Against a socio-economic backdrop in which basic necessities remain out of reach for many, “Havre de Paix” launched its community initiative, “A Day to Give.” The event provided concrete assistance through distribution of relief kits containing staples such as rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, and salt, alongside hygiene products. Guided by its slogan, “Acting for Youth”, “Havre de Paix” is led by National President Idriss Kamgang, who said Douala IV was chosen deliberately as part of a personal connection to the community. “You must always start where you first saw the light. I grew up here. We chose Douala IV because we want to help our brothers and sisters climb the slope together”, Idris Kamgang stated. He added that the organization’s long-term aim is to empower young people so that they can later support others in different cities across Cameroon. While representing the Youth and Animation Center in Douala IV, Atemafack Judith praised the donation’s timing particularly its potential to help protect the education of displaced children as the school term intensifies ahead of examinations. Judith Atemafack reminded that “A hungry man is an angry man. If a child lacks food, they cannot concentrate on school.” She emphasized that the support would help students remain focused and stable during a critical academic period. Elise Tcheunkam, Regional President of the association, highlighted the collective effort behind the initiative and thanked key partners, including Transit Time...
