African Day: Cameroon’s Embassy In USA Celebrates Heritage

It was a melting pot of Africa's rich cultures and traditions with Cameroon making her mark.
Embassies, diaspora communities and hundreds of guests gathered at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington D.C. on June 3, 2026, to celebrate African heritage. Represented by its Embassy in the United States of America with the Ambassador H.E. Henri Etoundi Essomba at the head of the delegation, Cameroon’s participation this year like in previous years, stood out. Its stand drew one of the most impressive crowds at the 2026 Africa Day celebration in the United States of America. Visitors were captivated by a vibrant showcase of its legendary cuisine, artwork, tourism potential and modern promotional tools designed to promote Cameroon as a unique tourist destination. The Embassy’s stand was a major attraction as guests, queued patiently to get a taste of an array of Cameroonian delicacies such as koki, soya, beignet - haricots, jollof rice and more. Visitors were also treated to Cameroon coffee, tea and chocolate with many interested in the flavor of the herbal tea known as “medim mezong” and the sharp bitter taste of “bitter kola”. Adding to the excitement was also a collection of innovative promotional gadgets, each embedded with a QR code linking to curated information on Cameroon’s exquisite tourism, cultures and investment opportunities.
