Decentralisation, Local Development : Strategic Goals For 2025 Outlined

Minister Georges Elanga Obam yesterday January 20, 2024 in Buea, officially opened the sixth goal-setting workshop.


Senior officials of the central and devolved services of the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development (MINDDEVEL) are meeting in Buea, South West Region to review activities carried out in 2024 and set the 2025 roadmap. The ball was set rolling on January 20, 2025 with the official opening of deliberations of the workshop. Minister Georges Elanga Obam in his opening remarks situated the context of the get-together, stating that the annual setting of strategic goals and tools for execution is crucial for any institution. The MINDDEVEL boss reviewed in synopsis, the achievements of the Ministry in 2024 among which are; the promulgation of the laws on Local Taxation and the Civil Status Registration System, signing of terms of reference and technical modalities for the transfer of competences to Regions in the Secondary Education sector and arête on the good functioning of municipal police services. In terms of local human resource development, the Ministry, he added, approved 176 work contracts and treatment of 99 complaints as well as the payment of salary arrears of 707 municipal magistrates for the 2013-2020 mandate to the tune of over FCFA two billion. A series of capacity building trainings, the Minister stated, were also held notably the training of 99 Municipal Police agents by NASLA, as well as Secretaries General of Regional Councils, 472 Secretaries General and Municipal Treasurers of Councils of the Centre, South, Adamawa, East, North West and South West Regions. These achievements also include the vulgarization of the Geographic Information System of 374 local and City Councils as well as inauguration of town halls and markets in six regions of the country.
