Local Championships : Unclear Transfer System

Both at the level of players and coaches, the market seems obscure with no exact grid for player valuation and several difficulties in the move from one club to the other.


The January transfer period for the 2024-2025 football season in Cameroon is already open and clubs are scouting for players to boost their squads. The second period runs from January 2 to 31, 2025. The first period ran from July 17 to October 4, 2024. As interesting as it may seem, what has been decried in the past years is the system involved in these moves. In Cameroon, the transfer window is often marred by controversies, and above all unprofessionalism from Elite One and Two clubs.
First, there is no real grid to determine player value in the midst of several criteria to this effect. Some of the criteria include age, contract duration, interest just to mention but these.
Again, professionally and under normal circumstances, the business of transferring a player from one club to another has to involve the two clubs concerned, the player and the parent of the player in case where the player is under 21 years. In some instances, player agents are also involved. However, that is not the case. Elite One and Two clubs before recruiting a player now put as precondition the presentation of the players Liberation Letter from the former club not minding if the player is still on contract or not. This situation has plunged clubs and players in disagreements especially when these players want to leave by all possible means.
The recent sacking of coaches in the national championship has been a major cause for worry. Five coaches have already been relieved of the duties and some have even changed clubs.
