As peace-loving Cameroonians anxiously await the swearing-in of President-elect and more importantly what he has in stock to surmount their varied challenges, some have rather chosen to transform the country into a near jungle. From what the perpetrators said were peaceful protests over their grievances with the election, what Cameroonians and the world at large have rather lived over the past days is a reign of terror imposed on the people.
Difficult to understand if the protesters transformed themselves into beasts to loot, destroy and create panic or they have been infiltrated by lawless individuals who are ever ready to hijack any situation for their hidden agenda. If not, how can one explain that people who set out for a “peaceful protest” end up destroying filling stations, burning down schools, private homes and government structures as well as carrying out wanton looting in business centres.
Administrative and security authorities in each of the affected cities have been redoubling efforts to bring the situation under control. There is therefore need for the population to show proof of heightened vigilance so as not to be carried away by those who are out to kill, steal and destroy. Avoiding their traps, refusing to yield to their malicious calls for violence and choosing to serve as one of the cornerstones on which a more prosperous and better unified Cameroon can be built, are imperative. People must be vigilant enough on what calls they are heeding to and what their actions could fetch for them, their families and nation in the short, ...
