Mbella Mbella was granted a courtesy audience last September 29, by Antonio Guterres on the side-lines of the 81st General Assembly of the Organisation.
E xternal Relations Minister Mbella Mbella who led the Ca meroonian delegation to the 81st session of the General As sembly of the United Nations was received in audience last Tuesday September 29, 2026 by the Secre tary General of the Organisation, Antonio Guterres. The audience came two days after the Minister read the statement of the President of the Republic before the august institution. During the audience, the two per sonalities discussed issues of com mon interest such as peace and se curity, especially stability within the Central African sub region. In deed, with Cameroon having joined the international organisation as member on September 20, 1960, the country has since then made an effort to promote democratic values as incarnated by the United Nations Charter. Over the years, co operation ties between both parties have evolved and is being evaluated on the participation of Cameroon in the life of the Organisation, visit of high ranking UN officials to Ca meroon, the placement of Came roonians at the helm of various UN organs, the role of Cameroon in the peace and security framework of the organisation, and, the role of UN systems in the development efforts of Cameroon. As peacekeeping allies, the United Nations supervised the signing of the Green Tree Accord which put an end to the land dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria over the Ba kassi Peninsular. In addition, Came roon, on a yearly basis, sends troops to the United Nations Multidimen sional Integrated Stabilisation Mis sion in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) for peacekeeping.
