Excellence In Medicine: Professor Basile Njei Joins Royal College

The induction ceremony which took place in Regent’s Park, London recognises his leadership in hepatology and global medical education amongst others.

Cameroonian-born physicianscientist, Professor Basile Njei, Co-Director of the Yale International Medicine Programme and Distinguished Professor of Global Health and Bioethics at EUCLID University, was formally inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in a ceremony held at the College's historic London headquarters on October 9, 2025. The President of the RCP presided over the ceremony, attended by distinguished medical scholars and global health leaders, marking a moment of immense pride for Cameroon and the African medical community. Admission to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians is one of the world's most esteemed professional honours, reserved for physicians who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of medicine, research, and public health. Professor Njei's induction follows a rigorous international peer-review process, recognising his exemplary leadership in hepatology, artificial intelligencedriven healthcare innovation, and his profound impact on global medical education. Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Njei has bridged continents and disciplines. Trained at the University of Yaounde I, the University of Edinburgh, Harvard, and Yale University, he has emerged as a leading authority in liver disease research and digital health transformation. His groundbreaking work on AI-based diagnostics and predictive models for liver disease has garnered international recognition for enhancing early detection and treatment of metabolic liver disorders, particularly among underserved populations.
